Olympics!

They’re here! The Olympics have begun, and the U.S. claimed its first gold when shooter Ginny Thrasher won the air rifle at the Rio Olympics. At age 19, Ginny not only won the first gold for the U.S., she won the first gold at the Rio Games! For those of you back to school or with kiddos excitedly following the Summer Games at home, Lessons From The Classroom brings you two FREE Olympics Word Searches to download. If your kids are like the fourth graders I teach, they love word searches! Not only are they engaging, they support vocabulary and spelling growth, a true win-win!

Non-fiction topics such as the Olympics are a rich vehicle for teaching reading comprehension. Sports topics in particular engage even the most reluctant readers. Sports are big in students’ lives. So many passionately play one sport or more and have favorite professional teams and players. Why not tap into that interest,  grab students’ attention and give them something they really want to read? Throw in some fun related activities along with comprehension tasks, and you have a winning series of lessons!

Recently I added Soccer Informational Text and Activities to the Lessons From The Classroom sports series. Perfect for timing for the Summer Games and fall fun!

Visit Lessons From The Classroom to download the complete preview of Soccer Informational Text and Activities. While there browse the many unique holiday, history and sports informational texts by Lessons From The Classroom, as well as many FREE items ready for download. All lessons are highly rated by users, all with ‘Read To Me’, a free feature that highlights the text while it is read aloud to the student. Peoriginal-2676684-1rfect for differentiation!
